Help choosing a new guitar needed.

Hello, everyone. Sometime this summer, I'm looking at replacing my Squire Strat that I've had for 12 years now, and I'm stuck between a Telecaster and a Les Paul (original, I know), and need help choosing between the two (and one more, which I'll get to in a bit). I should also mention that I'm really not looking to spend much more than $1000, and I'd say $1200 is my absolute cap. The type of music I play is a little bit of older stuff (Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Cream, etc.) and some newer alternative stuff. I'll be running them through a TC Spark mini, DigiTech Whammy, EHX Big Muff, and Ibanez Mini Tube Screamer, into a Peavy Vypyr 60watt.
I've been going back and forth for a while now. Both guitars seem to do exactly what I want them to.
The Les Paul I'm looking at would be something either like this one, or this one, though I'm leaning more towards the 60's tribute because it's a bit cheaper, and I love P-90's (I might replace the pickups with a Lollar P-90 bridge and a Lollar Alnico staple neck).
I've been looking at a variety of Teles, and my favorite one so far is something of a 1964 custom reissue (like this). The only ones I can find are MIJ models, which are hard to reliably find, and Custom Shop models, which are way above my price range. Though I would settle for a normal, unbound sunburst Tele, but with specs similar to this one (only right handed. I think that one is a 1964 or 65, but I could be wrong).
Basically, I love the crunch of the Tele when you crank it, and it feel balanced when I sit with it (I'll be standing most of the time), but the Les Paul just feels right, and every note I want comes of out if naturally. Only problem, when I sit with it, the body feels substantially heavier than the neck.
Now, with all this Beatles talk, there is one guitar that is in the back of my mind that will give the Tele and Les Paul a run for their money: The Epiphone Casino. I love the sound of it, but it doesn't quite feel right (it may just be the gloss on the neck, though). I'm really not sure how good it is for soloing and stuff like that. Plus, I'm not sure how reliable the electronics will be. Finding a model in my budget will probably result in me getting the cheapest, Korean made model.
Anyways, sorry for the long post, but any suggestions?
TL;DR: Tele, Les Paul, but for some reason, Casino.

Refinishing thick poly with binding

I have a natural finished, bound guitar with a relatively thick coat of poly on it. I'm looking to strip the poly, sand it, dye the top, and spray a flat black on the back/neck/headstock.
From a search on /Luthier, I've found a couple of links:
My biggest concern is melting the binding with the heat gun. The first link shows the use of masking tape to protect the binding. Will I then need to scrape the poly off of the binding manually?
With a set neck, will I run the risk of compromising the neck glue stability if I heat it too much?
How will I know when I've sanded through all sealer so that the dye "takes" well?
Do I run the risk of dying the binding? I've never used a dye before.
Are there any other "gotchas" that I should look out for? I'm pretty handy overall and have the patience to do it right, but I'm not naive enough to think I know what I'm doing when it comes to guitars. If I screw this up, it is no biggie.
Thank you!

Help /r/ Guitar! I need to replace my singe coils in my strat, suggestions?

So far I'm thinking about getting some Fender Custom Shop '69's, I already have a Gibson SG and an Epiphone Casino, so having a substantial low end isn't a worry. I'm looking for some single coils that will just provide a lot of single note fluidity as well as retaining a good chord feel too. Any suggestions or tips? Thanks!
